A Retrospective
Written by Various NL Women
Produced by Rising Tide Theatre
Runtime: 40 Minutes
Synopsis:
Drawing from early NL playwrights like Grace Butt and Helen Porter and adaptations of work by Margaret Duley, to later playwrights like Amy House, Bernardine Stapleton, and onwards to writers we have featured in our Trinity productions such as Meghan Greeley, Petrina Bromley, Adriana Maggs and more, Rising Tide presents this series of pieces that explore a common theme of bringing voices of the past into our present to reflect on how the world, and the people inhabiting it, have or have not the ability to change.
About Rising Tide Theatre:
Formed in 1978, Rising Tide began by writing and producing political plays that addressed controversial issues for Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1993, the Company created the New Founde Land Pageant, an outdoor theatre experience that takes audiences on a journey through the lanes and roads of Trinity. The purpose was to bring to life the rich history of the area while showcasing the acting talent of local Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
In 1994, the company opened the Summer in the Bight Theatre Festival as a companion event to the pageant and in 2000 they opened their own building in the historic district of the community of Trinity. Each year, the festival brings to the stage a new season of plays that focus on the inspiring stories that make this province unique. The festival had traditionally run during the summer months, but in 2002, the Company expanded the Festival into the fall and re-named it “Seasons in the Bight”. Rising Tide commissions and produces many new works.
