Proposals will be assessed and chosen by our programming committee based on
Each play team chosen will receive $4,500 toward participant fees and production costs. Plus, each team will be supported with access to our rehearsal space (The Nest), access to our technical equipment (sound gear and projector), and free photocopying.
In order to ensure participation from play teams from across the province, we will also offer travel stipends for those located outside of St John’s.
Applications will be accepted until Monday June 10 at 12pm NST (noon).
Each evening will also feature an opening performance by a woman* musician, followed by the reading or performance from each play team.
*PerSIStence Theatre recognizes the limits of using binary language. Issues facing women do not only affect cisgender women: systems of oppression are interdependent and the patriarchy affects everyone in different ways. Our activism includes those identifying as transgender, non-binary, 2SLGBTQIA+, Black, Indigenous, racialized, disabled, as well as people with lived experience.

We are now calling for proposals from companies and ad-hoc play teams from across the province under the following criteria:
- Plays submitted must be written by a woman* playwright who claims residency in Newfoundland and Labrador at the time of the writing her play.
- They do not need to be new plays! In fact, we hope that this Festival will feature the work of some of our province’s finest established, produced and published playwrights.
- New plays are welcome! The Festival is an opportunity for any playwright who identifies as a woman* to showcase their work, wherever it exists on its journey.
- Proposals may be for full production or staged professional readings; each play team may decide how they best wish to share their submitted play.
- The footprint of the First Light Centre for Performance and Creativity is very basic and limited to 16' x 24' elevated staging area with a general "wash" of light. Whatever you bring in to the space must be removed immediately after your performance. Please keep this in mind when planning your presentation.
Proposals will be assessed and chosen by our programming committee based on
- diversity from several definers - including regionality to ensure representation from across the province
- artistic quality
- alignment of proposal with values of the company as stated in our guiding principles
- practical viability of the production (given the footprint of the presentation space)
